3 Ways to Reuse Your Old Essential Oil Bottles

So you have empty essential oil bottles, but nothing to do with them?

Here are 3 ways you can upcycle your essential oil bottles with little to no waste:

1.On-the-go makeup remover bottles

Most essential oil bottles are about one ounce, which makes it perfect for a zero waste on-the-go makeup remover bottle. First, clean the essential oil bottle and cap with soap and hot water. You can put the essential oil bottle in the dishwasher if it is made of glass, but do not put the cap in the dishwasher. It will melt. To clean the cap soak it in hot water and soap, then rinse it with cold water. You can use your preferred makeup remover, or try my DIY makeup remover. Take 25 mL of fractionated coconut oil and pour it into a clean essential oil bottle. Add 2 drops of eucalyptus, lavender, or tea tree essential oil, then shake the capped bottle to mix the makeup remover. These little bottles fit just about everywhere and perfect for minimalist traveling!

2.Spice containers while hiking or traveling

Once finished with the bottle, clean it and let it dry completely. Clean the bottle cap with soap and hot water and let it dry completely. After both cap and bottle are clean and dry fill with the spices you plan on using on your hike, while, traveling, or just on the go. This works well with salt, pepper, paprika, curry powder, onion powder, and garlic powder. I use this for sriracha and soy sauce. These little one ounce bottles are great for hiking and traveling because they fit just about anywhere!

3.Travel shampoo, conditioner, and body wash

Clean the essential oil bottle and cap. Once clean and dry, add your preferred shampoo, conditioner, and body wash to each bottle. Depending on the essential oil bottle, you may want to skip cleaning the bottle soap and just add in your shampoo, conditioner, or body wash after mildly rinsing the bottle, if you want to keep some of the scents of the essential oil in the bottle and to mix in with what you put in it. Essential oil bottles are great for overnight trips, if you don’t have much space, or want a zero-waste, minimalist, and almost plastic-free solution.

  1. This is just what I had been looking for, I have an almost empty glass mini bottle with a dropper that I’m going to repurpose for a makeup remover diy. Thanks for sharing these ideas!

  2. This is great! I always wonder what I should do with those bottles once I’m done!

  3. This was clever. I really had no idea what to do with them and thought of sending them to the recycling bin. Are you using them in your yoga practice too? like on the towel or through a bottle spray?
